Drinking Around the World

I am now about 1/3 of the way through with my Drinking Around the World Challenge that I first mentioned to you all back in December.  A cafe around the corner from my house, European Street, hosts a Beer Club.  Members of the Beer Club are offered a challenge:  you are given one year to drink a bottle of 100 or so beers from around the world.  The prize?  1 draft beer a day for a year and your name gets engraved on a plaque on the wall.

Last week I drank my 30th beer from the list.  After receiving some questions about the challenge on Facebook and Instagram, I’ve decided to share with you the list of 106 beers on the list.

What have I learned from all of this?

  • Budlight is crap.
  • Real beer drinkers are secretly making fun of you for drinking Corona.
  • I don’t like IPA’s.
  • So far my favorite beers have been Chimay Blue Cap, Hoegaarden, La Fin du Monde, and Carlsberg.
  • I am considering tackling GQ’s List of 50 Beers to Try that Jessica is doing.  There are only 3 beers that appear on both lists (Yuengling, Red Stripe & Rogue Dead Guy Ale).

There are 4 different lists featured by European Street.  You have to complete them in sequence.  I foresee many more beers in my future!

  1. You know I’m aboard with this:-)

I’ll drink water before drinking a bad mass-produced industrial lager, for sure.

If you ever need any recommendations beyond the list you are working on, you know who to come to!

  2. Your prize is better than my prize! I had to drink 200 beers (although I wasn’t held to a time limit) and only got my name on the wall. Is there a limit to the number of beers you are allowed to drink in one sitting? Getting a beer a day for a year sounds awesome!

    • They allow you to pound back the beers until you can no longer sit on your stool ;) Luckily that hasn’t happened to us quite yet. I usually only do 2 beers in a sitting. I think the most I’ve done is 4 because I’m not the type to get drunk.

Even better, the cafe that hosts the the competition is just 7 blocks from home :)
